Gerundios y Aspectualidad: Acerca de los estativos

2008
Even though most analysis consider the group of stative predicates as homogeneous, we pose that they constitute a class conformed by at least two subtypes: the pure stative predicates and the bounded stative predicates. To prove it, we first see that pure statives entail their »corresponding« bounded stative. Second, it is demonstrated that only bounded statives (and not pure statives) can head a secondary predicate when dominated by an activity predicate. Finally, semantic descriptions – on the vein of Jackendoff – of »corresponding« verbs (ser/estar, saber/conocer and gustar/querer) are given to show that both members of each pair are identically represented except for the trait [+ bounded] that appears only in the second (i.e., bounded) member.
