Wireless Sensing Overview

We are entering the era of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) where trillions of devices are pervasively connected and, more importantly, equipped with advanced sensing intelligence. These devices can sense physical space and gain awareness of target contexts such as locations, activities, motion, vital signs, etc. With the advance of wireless sensing, all of these sensing tasks can be achieved using pervasive wireless infrastructure, such as Wi-Fi access points, and without the need for specialized sensors, wearables, or cameras. In this chapter, the concept of wireless sensing and its typical application scenarios are introduced. The three most prominent challenges of wireless sensing are then discussed.
