Comparative analyses of optical limiting effects in metal nanoparticles and perovskite nanocrystals

2019
Abstract This paper reports the comprehensive comparative study of absorptive nonlinear optical limiting among metal nanoparticles, quantum dots, and perovskites using 60 fs, 800 nm laser pulses. The metal nanoparticles include Al, Ti, Co, Ni, Zn, Ag, Sn, In, W, Au and the quantum dots of Ag 2 S, and finally the perovskites such as CsPbBr 3 and CsPbI 2 Br. We systematically characterized all materials mentioned above using absorption spectra and scanning electron microscope. We demonstrate that the light-induced nonlinear absorption leads to optical limiting. The suspensions of the reported samples demonstrated low threshold of optical limiting, which can be explained by strong two-photon absorption in these solutions. The gold nanoparticles (10–30 nm) show the lowest threshold of optical limiting (3.26 mJ cm −2 ).
