The article investigates A.V. Amfiteatrov's individual understanding of the peculiarities and specific features of the 1880s, his definitions of the concepts «phenomenon of the 1880s», «man of the 1880 s» and manifestation of the problems of this historical period in the novel «Men of the 80s».
