Vibration analysis forfouling detection using hammerimpact test andfinite element simulation

2008
Theeasydetection offouling inductsystems isa persistent problem andremains arelevant demandfor thechemical, oil, foodandpharmaceutical industries. Thisworkpresents preliminary research results ofvibrational hammerexcitation for easytouseexternal non-invasive, non-destructive fouling detection inpipelines andother large scale duct systems. Themaingoalisthe detection ofinner pipelayer formation, andthickness estimation of theadsorbed material. Dataweretakenfromthevibration amplitude variation inpresence ofaninner pipe fouling layer using acoustic accelerometer detection, combined withFE (Finite Elements). Theexperimental set-up, achievable sensitivity and limitations ofthemethod areoutlined.
