Soil protection in the Netherlands : the continuing story

Soil protection policy in the Netherlands has developed rapidly over the past ten years. The present paper gives an introduction to the basic premises of Dutch soil protection policy and will highlight the more recent developments. The use of soil quality criteria is illustrated within this policy framework. In view of the ongoing discussion on soil quality criteria in other countries the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches are discussed.
