Constructing Computational Pipelines

2016
Computational pipelines have become an integral part of biomedical research in the post-genomic era. With the advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies, data production is no longer a limitation. The main bottleneck usually occurs at the data processing stage, and computational pipelines are the key component of this process. Pipeline robustness, reproducibility and ease of implementation are some of the key characteristics when selecting pipeline framework to use. In this article, we introduce various frameworks for constructing computational pipelines. The primary aim is to aid decision making, when choosing the suitable pipeline tools with respect to the project at hand.
