ALS Policy: A Russian Perspective

2021
Around 10,000 people in Russia live with ALS. People with ALS and their families have an overwhelming number of needs and most of them are addressed by the health-care system, social services and charity foundations, but the amount of support varies in different regions. The main challenge is implementation of standard of care across the country which includes multidisciplinary medical teams and social support. Recently, we have seen encouraging changes in palliative care support for people with ALS, but we still need to improve legislation in the field of end-of-life decisions and implement standards for end-of-life care.
