Polymer nanocomposites are an emerging and promising field within modern plastics. Both mechanical and thermal improvements of nanocomposites compared to traditional materials composite have generated high expectations in manifold applications within transport sector. This article illustrates some key aspects of these applications, stressing the SMEs' need of improving R&D initiatives and synergisms, in order to achieve a national positioning within this important economic sector.
