Case history: Stress corrosion cracking of reactor riser by polythionic acid in a petroleum refinery

AbstractThis paper describes a microstructural investigation to determine the cause of the failure of a reactor riser in a petroleum refinery. The investigation revealed that failure had occurred as a result of stress corrosion cracking caused by polythionic acid.
