Active structures of the product of sulfiding of nickel molybdate. Hydrogenation of aromatic hydrocarbons

1983
The activity of the components of the product of sulfiding of the nickel-molybdenum oxide system (Ni:Mo = 1:1) - Ni/sub 3/S/sub 2/, MoS/sub 2/, both individual and contained in binary and ternary mixtures, was studied in the hydrogenation of oxylene in the presence of thiophene. It was shown that the maximum hydrogenating activity is possessed by the Mo sulfide component (MSC). It was concluded that the Ni/sub 3/S/sub 2/ and MoO/sub 2/ phases do not promote the activity of the MSC. Using acid extraction of Ni/sub 3/S/sub 2/, magnetic measurements, elementary and x-ray phase analysis, and the results of a measurement of the hydrogenation activity, it was shown that the MSC of the samples studied contains 1.5-2% by weight nickel in the form of Ni/sup 2 +/ ions, promoting MoS/sub 2/ activity.
