CONGABA GERENCIAMENTO DE RESÍDUOS SÓLIDOS NA UNIVERSIDADE DO ESTADO DO AMAPÁ

2018
The National Policy on Solid Waste (Law 12305/2010) opened new horizons and represented the milestone of a new era for solid waste management in Brazil, making responsible all actors involved in the product life cycle. The universities are also included in this integrated management, since they performed research, teaching and extension activities producing all types of solid waste that can negatively impact the environment. Based on this our study aims to present the experiences and analysis of the actions involving solid waste management at the State of Amapa University from 2015. For this, we performed the identification of activities and sources that generated solid waste; the qualitative-quantitative diagnosis of solid waste generation; awareness actions and capacity building for the academic community and the proposing of appropriate methods for segregation, storage and final disposal. Approximately 155 kg of solid waste per week are generated at the campus, with organic and plastic material accounting for 35% and 27% of the total produced, respectively. From the awareness workshops it was observed the need to promote continuous actions to discuss the environmental issues of the campus. To implement the selective collection, new collectors were obtained and distributed in strategic locations to facilitate the appropriate temporary disposal.  The appropriate location for the construction of the waste storage unit was identified and the project was elaborated following the NBR 11174/1990. For the final destination of recyclable waste, we began the formalization of a partnership, through a social contract, between the university and a recycling company. The actions proposed in the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Plan UEAP reveal the importance of involving all actors of the academic community, for the promotion of continued actions of the institution's plan and suitability, as well to contribute to waste planning and management in other education institutions and public agencies.
