Redescription of Mazamastrongylus trinitatis Cameron, 1935 and a discussion on the systematic position and species composition of the genus Mazamastrongylus Cameron, 1935 (Nematoda: Trichostrongyloidea)
1986
Mazamastrongylus trinitatis Cameron, 1935 is redescribed based on the original material. Lectotype and paralectotypes are designated. Based on morphological characteristics the genera Spiculopteroides Jansen, 1958 and Sarwaria Drozdz, 1965 and the subgenus Dorsagia Guerrero & Chavez, 1967 are placed into synonymy with Mazamastrongylus Cameron, 1935. As there are morphological differences compared with the other genera in the subfamily Ostertagiinae in the structure of the copulatory bursa and in the morphology of the accessory bursal membrane, Mazamastrongylus is regarded as a valid genus within the subfamily Ostertagiinae. M. trinitatis Cameron, 1935, M. bubalis (Sarwar, 1956) n. comb., M. dagestanica (Altaev, 1953) n. comb., M. janseni (Drozdz, 1965) n. comb., M. odocoilei (Dikmans, 1931) n. comb., M. peruvianus (Guerrero & Chavez, 1967) n. comb., M. pursglovei (Davidson & Prestwood, 1979) n. comb. and M. vietnamica (Drozdz, 1965) n. comb. are listed as species belonging to Mazamastrongylus.
