There are 23 different door, hatch, and window release mechanisms identified in 35 types of helicopters that earn their living over water. There is no standardization of the mechanism within each cockpit or among helicopter types, nor is there any standardization of the location relative to the operation; whether the mechanism matches the task or in which direction the door/hatch/window is jettisoned.
