IN FAVOR OF INTEGRATED TEACHING IN THE FRESHMAN YEAR OF ARCHITECTURE 1

2015
This article lays out the results of a study entitled “The teaching of architecture in the freshman year”, the aim of which was to take an in-depth look at the syllabi of different schools of architecture around the world and understand how the structure of the freshman-year curriculum shapes the education of future architects. One of the main difficulties encountered in this research is the continuing fragmentation of knowledge into areas, in spite of the growing need to train architects that understand the discipline in an integrated way. Therefore, this study stresses the need to establish transverse topics that make it possible to once again join the aforementioned self-contained areas of knowledge, and in this manner assure that students make connections between acquired knowledge.
