Short-term Efficiency of Montelukast Sodium for Bronchiolitis

2012
Objective To study of the short-term efficiency of Montelukast sodium on the bronchiolitis. Methods Fifty two infants with bronchiolitis in our hospital from January 2010 to March 2011 were randomly divided into two groups;the control group(n=27) was given the conventional therapy, while the observation group(n=25) were administered with Montelukast Sodium based on the conventional therapy. The differences in duration of wheeze and coughing and hospitalization time;meanwhile, the level of serum IgE,IL-4 and IFN-γ in two groups before and after the treatment were detected. Results The effects of observation group was superior to the control group in duration time of fine rales and coughing and hospitalization time, the differences was statically significant(P0.05).There was not statically significant in duration of wheeze(P0.05).The level of serum IgE and IL-4 decreased after therapy, the level of IFN-γ increased, the differences was statically significant(P0.05),and the observation group was more significant. Conclusion Montelukast sodium was absolutely significant in the therapy of bronchiolitis, especially in shortening the course of disease and improving host defenses, but it has limited effects to relieve the wheezing in the early stage.
