Clinical effect of central neck lymph nodes dissection on papillary thyroid carcinoma

2010
Objective To evaluate the effect of central neck lymph nodes dissection(CND)in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC).Methods Case-controlled comparative analyses were carried out in this study.CND group had 102 cases of PTC and non-CND group had 176 cases of PTC.The differences of complications and prognosis between the two groups were compared. Results No significant difference in recurrence rate was identified between the two groups.Transient hypocalcemia occurred in 21.6% patients in CND group and 6.8% in non-CND group. The only one case of permanent hypoparathyroidism occurred in CND group. Conclusions CND is recommendable for PTC patients with enlarged cervical lymph nodes preoperatively found by ultrasound.
