The Transcriptional Factors CDX2 and FOXA1 in Chordomas

2020
Abstract Chordomas are rare osseous tumors believed to originate from notochordal remnants through brachyury activation. CDX2 and FOXA1 are both induced by brachyury, but their expression has not been studied in chordomas. We retrospectively studied the immunohistochemical expression of these two factors in 57 chordomas, finding that CDX2 is not expressed in these tumors. FOXA1 expression was found in 7 (12.3%) tumors. No association of FOXA1 expression with clinical factors was found. Thus, CDX2 expression is not a feature of chordomas, while a limited expression of FOXA1 is seen.
