SUBSTANCE MISUSE | Urine Analysis*

2016
Under workplace drug-testing programs, randomly collected urine samples are tested for commonly abused drugs. Such tests involve initial screening, and the confirmation and quantitation of presumptive positives. Sometimes samples are intentionally altered (substituted, diluted, or adulterated) by sample donors to defeat the intent of the testing. The findings of the drug testing should be carefully interpreted and evaluated in view of the variety of factors such as donor’s health, working conditions, dietary habits, body weight, gender, race, and ethnicity. Therefore, the opinions often adjudicated are not always achievable with definite conclusions on the test findings alone.
