A Simple Slot Antenna for Vehicle to Infrastructure Communication Using 802.11p

2021
Nowadays, vehicles are equipped with a large range of different communication systems. From those, dedicated short range communication (DSRC) systems are expected to support various road-traffic services such as vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communications. These topics have recently become under the spotlight in both the automotive industry and the academia. This paper focus of the enhancement traffic signs giving them the capability of emitting radio signals to be decoded by vehicle on boards unit (OBU). The motivation for this work is to create and simulate an 802.11p compatible antenna, working on the 5.9 GHz band, to be incorporated seamlessly into regular metallic traffic signs. The proposed antenna system was integrated in a regular sign and its performance was evaluated by electromagnetic simulation with relatively good results.
