Linear Low-Density Polyethylene/Ethylene-Octene Copolymer/Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Composites with Microwave Absorbing Properties

2010
Polymer matrix composites were prepared using linear low density polyethylene/ethylene-octene copolymer as matrix and multi-walled carbon nanotube as filler. Samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The formation of interconnectivity of filler in matrix was testified by determining the electrical conductivity. The composites (thickness: 4.0 mm) loading 30 g filler in 100.0 g resin display an absorbing peak of −11.15 dB at 4.4 GHz. The bandwidth (reflection loss ≤ −10 dB) is about 1.2 GHz. The peak position moves to lower frequencies with filler increase. The microwave absorption can be attributed to the dielectric loss. Simulation calculations for microwave absorption agree with experimental results.
