The current situation of taeniasis/cysticercosis in Yajiang area of Sichuan Province and Ming Area of Gansu Province.

Objective To investigate the current situation of taeniasis/cysticercosis in Yajiang County of Sichuan Province and Ming County of Gansu Province.MethodsTraditional epidemiological methods were used to investigate taeniasis/cysticercosis infections among Yajiang County and Ming County.The patients were given treatment with helminthicides of areca and pumpkin seeds.The morphology of the worm expelled were checked afterwards.Results1 137 persons in 7 villages of Yajiang County were investigated, and found 73 patients with clinical symptoms; 18 patients with subcutaneous knob and 2 patients with cysticercosis. Two patients expelled Taenia solium and 21 patients expelled Taenia saginata. 652 persons in 6 villages of Ming County were investigated. 27 patients with clinical symptoms were not able to expel adult worms after taking pumpkin seeds. There were 17 patients with cerebral cysticercosis.ConclusionThe people in Yajiang Area like eating raw cattle and pig meat. The local farmers in Ming Area have more opportunities to contact with excrement.
