Microanalysis of Interfacial Products in Ti‐Coated A12O3 Ceramics

2008
Changes in chemistry and morphology at the interface reaction region of Ti/95 percent Al2O3 upon exposure to heat treatment at 980 C have been studied using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and convergent beam electron diffraction methods. Reactions of titanium with an amorphous grain boundary phase and Al2O3 substrate form both silicide layers and columnar Ti3Al grains at the interface. 13 refs.
