Lifetime measurement of the first excited state in S-37
2016
Lifetime of the 3/2(-) first excited state in S-37 populated by the beta(-) decay of P-37 has been measured using beta-gamma.delayed coincidence technique. The B(E2; 7/2(-) -> 3/2(-)) value in S-37 deduced from the lifetime comes close to the B(E2; 0(+) -> 2(1)(+)) value in weakly deformed S-38 but deviates significantly from that in spherical S-36. This manifests that S-37 is a weakly deformed rather than spherical nucleus.
