Effect evaluation of dental caries health education among primary school students in Haidian District,Beiing

Objective To evaluate the effect of health education activities on dental caries among primary school students in Haidian District,Beijing,and provide evidence for dental caries prevention.Methods One group before-after design was implemented in a primary school in Haidian District of Beijing.Students were investigated before and after health education activities by using a self-designed questionnaire.Poster,leaflet and lectures were carried out.Intervention effect was evaluated by the differences of dental caries related knowledge,attitude,and behaviors between before and after.Results After intervention,the score of dental caries-related knowledge was increased from(7.01 ± 1.85) to(7.61 ±1.99)(P 0.05),and the increase in Grade four was highest.The proportion of oral examination in respondents was increased from 33.2% to 42.3%(P 0.05) after intervention.Attitude to oral health care was not changed significantly.Conclusion Oral health education intervention can improve the primary school students’knowledge and health behavior related to dental caries.Long-term intervention should be implemented to decrease dental caries prevalence among primary school students.
