A high sensitivity partial discharge current measurement method for the high voltage IGBT

The partial discharge tolerance is a fundamental requirement for high voltage IGBT module, but we should evaluate the partial discharge ruggedness of a single IGBT die firstly. A novel high sensitivity partial discharge current measurement method for the high voltage IGBT is presented in this paper. The measurement results by the proposed method are compared with those by the IEC 61394 method and the IEC 60270 method. These results show that the proposed method can get the wideband PD pulse current of the high voltage IGBT in time domain and is more sensitive than the others.
