Highly diastereoselective photoaddition of methanol to limonene

Abstract Extremely high diastereomeric excess was achieved from the photosensitized polar addition of methanol to ( R )-(+)-limonene 1 . Diastereomeric excess was varied from 28.1 to 96.3% depending on the solvent polarity, reaction temperature, and structure of sensitizer.
