Health effects of weight cycling

In recent years, the term weight cycling has been used in the fields of nutrition and obesity to refer to repeated losses and subsequent regains of body weight in association with weight loss diets. The popular press has preferred the term ‘yo-yo’ dieting and has saturated the public with information and misinformation about the phenomenon. This chapter will review early studies as well as some more recent evidence relating weight cycling to health outcomes.
