An integrated model for the frequency and timetabling problem

2011
The process of urban public transportation planning commonly include four basic activities usually executed in sequence: Network design, Timetabling, Vehicle scheduling and Crew scheduling. In this work we present an integrated model for the minimum frequency and timetabling. We use two metaheuristics to solve it. The main cientific contribution of this paper is the development of an integrated MILP model to construct timetable by selecting frequencies in such a way that multiple objectives are optimized, like operational cost, synchronization, waiting time and smooth transitions between periods. Finally we show and analyze some experimental results.
