Application of a Three-luminal Nasojejunal Tube for Early Enteral Feeding After Pylorus-preserving Partial Pancreatoduodenectomy

2001
Summary. Aim: Retrospective investigation of postoperative nutrition in 165 patients after PPPD after intraoperative application of a three-luminal nasojejunal tube (NJT, n= 127) for early enteral nutrition (EEN) in comparison to a gastric tube (GT, n=38) in respect to reach ing full oral nutrition (ON). Methods: Patients were divided into 3 groups depending on re intubation or reoperation (group 1; 8.5% of all cases), intervention or conservative treatment of complications (group 2; 34.5%) or having no complications at all (group 3; 57%). Results: Start ofEEN on day 1 postop.,start of oral nutrition with NJT after 2 d vs.4 d with GT (p<0.05). ON after 8 d with NJT vs. 10 d with GT (p<0.05). Group 1: no differences in reaching ON, group 3: shorter hospital stay with NJT (p<0.05). Group 2: ON after 8 d with NJT vs. 11 d with GT (p<0.05). Conclusion: Data show a positive effect ofNJT after PPPD.
