Grid Connected Renewable Energy Based EV Charger with Bidirectional AC/DC Converter

2018
The growing deployment of both renewable energy sources as well as the electrical vehicles (EV s) has changed the conventional structure of the global energy sector. In Grid connected renewable energy based EV charger systems, the bidirectional AC/DC converters are employed for more reliable power flow operation. This paper proposes a bidirectional AC/DC converter with combination of ac-dc grid bidirectional converter (GBC) and de-de bidirectional battery charger (BBC). The GBC converter facilitate the bidirectional power flow between the AC and DC grid, and BBC converter provides a bidirectional power flow between the energy storage system/EVs and the dc grid with isolation. To inject the power in to the grid a robust current control technique is required. A hysteresis based current control technique is used to inject current in to the grid. In AC-DC conversion, an asymmetric PWM strategy is proposed with minimum switching transitions. Simulations are performed using PSCAD tool to validate the proposed control algorithms.
