Rehabilitation Using Fixed Removable Prosthesis - A Twin Case Report

Implants and fixed prosthesis are the preferred treatment modality for patients because of its superiority in function, esthetics, phonetics and long term predictability. However, there are many clinical situations that prohibit the use of the fixed treatment modality. These clinical cases can vary from, inadequate number of healthy teeth and/or implants to, the esthetically challenging cases of high smile lines and severe loss of alveolar support. The approach of using a traditional removable prosthesis in these situations has always been met with severe compromises. A fixed-removable prosthesis is another treatment modality that can solve the problems of a removable restoration and at the same time provide the comfort and success of the fixed prosthesis. The restoration has a pontic assembly that is conveniently removed by the patient for periodontal maintenance. This article presents twin case reports which describe a technique for treatment of partially edentulous cases with severe loss of alveolar support using a fixed removable prosthesis/Andrew's bridge.
