Clinical Efficacy of Compound Kushen Injection Combined with Chemotherapy for Advanced Digestive Neoplasm

2011
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy of compound Kushen injection combined with chemotherapy for advanced digestive neoplasm.METHODS:In this retrospective analysis,a total of 120 patients with advanced digestive neoplasm were randomly assigned to receive either compound Kushen injection combined with FP chemotherapy(treatment group,n = 60) or chemotherapy alone(control group,n = 60) for 2-4 cycles(4 weeks in each cycle). The adverse reactions,KPS scores(quality of life) and pain relief in the two groups were compared and analyzed.RESULTS:The incidences of nausea, vomiting, reduction in leucocyte count and hemoglobin, diarrhea and mucositis were significantly lower in the treatment group than in control group, showing significant differences between the two groups(P 0.01);however,there were no significant differences between the two groups in neurotoxicity and hepatorenal dysfunction(P 0.05).The marked effective rate in KPS scores and rate of pain relief in treatment group were 71.67% and 73.3%,respectively,which were significantly higher than in the control group, showing significant differences between the two groups(P 0.05).CONCLUSION:The addition of compound Kushen injection to chemotherapy significantly attenuated the toxic side effects of chemotherapy, increased patients ’ tolerance to chemotherapy and improved patients’quality of life, which is of benefits for patients with digestive neoplasm and extensively applied value.
