Trichothecene mycotoxin T-2 is a secondary metabolite of several Fusarium species, and is known as a natural contaminant of stored grain and other agricultural products. This compound is a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis and has been implicated as the causative agent of several mycotoxicoses. There is also a close relationship between T-2 toxin and esophageal carcinoma, Keshan, Kaschin-Beck diseases in China.
