Implementing life cycle cost analysis methodology for evaluating agricultural pruning-to-energy initiatives
2019
Abstract Pruning-to-energy (PtE) initiatives increase the use of renewable energy resources. This paper presents results of life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) of PtE logistic system considering costs at different stages: harvesting, storage, transport, and management. Five pruning varieties: Almond, Apple, Olive, Vineyard, and Peach were considered. At basic scenario, 50 km transport distance (between farm and end user) and a truck with capacity of 90 m 3 have been considered. The life cycle costs varied from 50.06 €/t w.b. to 108.90 €/t w.b . The operational cost was about 73% of total life cycle cost while investment cost represented the remaining 27%.
