Effect of Mo2C on the microstructure and properties of WC–TiC–Ni cemented carbide

2008
Abstract In the paper, Mo 2 C doped WC–TiC–Ni cemented carbide is prepared by vacuum sintering. The effect of Mo 2 C addition level on the microstructure and mechanical properties is investigated. After the addition of Mo 2 C, core–rim structure is founded, and the wettability is improved. Furthermore, the WC grains are refined, indicating that Mo 2 C is an effective grain growth inhibitor. With the increase of Mo 2 C content, the hardness and transverse-rupture strength of the cemented carbide are improved. The results obtained in this study extend the knowledge on Ni bonded cemented carbide.
