Study of Electro-optic Effect of Liquid Crystal Monomolecular Film

2002
In this paper,we have reported the experimental results of electro - optic effect in liquid crystal monomolecular film obtained by surface plasma polariton(SPP) technique. The SPP was detected by kretschmann lens mode, the resonant spectra of SPP is closely related not only to dielectri thickness and constant at near gold film, but also very sensitive to their change. These results studied by SPP technique on liquid/peanut acid composite on gold film psepared via LB technique have shown that the resonant peak of SPP spectra in liquid/peanut acid composite film under action of electric field become narrower, the position of its resonant angle also changes. This means that the dielectric constant of monomolecular film was changed by electric field, but its electro - optic effect is indenpent of field frequency.
