Method for producing x-ray radiation and a device for carrying out said method

2008
The invention relates to a method for producing X-ray radiation, including the excitating the atoms of a target external surface, which method involves forming, at a low pressure, a liquid medium flow which has at least in the peripheral part thereof cavitation regions (2) with cavitation bubble (1) collapse areas (3) and bringing the collapse areas (3) of the above mentioned flow into contact with the inner surface (7) of a target (6), wherein the target (6) is made of a material exhibiting the low volume attenuation factor of an elastic ultrasonic wave the thickness of which is equal to or greater than the wavelength conversion of the elastic ultrasonic wave which is excited by a shock wave (5) of the collapse area (3) in the material of the target (6). A device for carrying out said method which makes it possible, by using different targets, to produce a narrow-band X-ray radiation, a characteristic radiation of a given substance and a combined characteristic radiation, is also disclosed.
