STUDIES ON THE HOUSEHOLD WATER SUPPLY OF TIRUPATI CITY, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA

Water scarcity is universally experienced and being a scarce source is delivered by demand. Eco city, Tirupati is a famous hindu pilgrim centre in Andhra Pradesh. The present population is 5lakhs and 1 lakh floating population is expected in this city. As the population is increasing rapidly, the requirement of water supply is increasing many folds. The Tirupati city depends on 70% of water supply from ground water and remaining from the surface water resources. Tirupati municipality operates 193 borewells. The water is either pumped directly to the distribution system or supplied through overhead reservoirs. The city has been divided into 16 water distribution zones. The central area of the city which consists of 12 zones covering nearly 3/4th of population is provided with pipe water supply. Surface water from Telugu ganga and Kalyani dam are supplied to the city.
