Principles for Shortened-forms of Chinese(Preliminary Draft)

Shortened-forms in this draft refer to all initials,abbreviations and number-initials. The formation of all shortened -forms in Chinese is proposed to follow the principles such as necessity and possibility which are considered to be basical. Apart from these,for the formation of initials, the meaning -cut rule and the optimization of correlation rule which is between components formed into initials and original forms, are also necessary; for the formation of abbreviations,the priority of central component rule and the priority of the first syllable rule are needed;for the formation of number-initials,the priority of common components is also needed. For those shortened-forms coexisted simultaneously,which one should be adopted,can be judged from the following rules: a) the priority of traditions, b) the priority of the meaning of expression,c) the priority of shortness and d) the priority of the first syllable. The use of all shortened -forms is proposed to adapt to: a) the level rule, b) co -occurrence rule and c) appropriateness rule.
