Comment on Toftlund et al

2020
: We have read with great interest the article entitled "Improved lung function at age 6 in children born very preterm and fed extra protein post discharge" by Toftlund et al1 . First of all I would like to congratulate the authors for their study which showed a correlation of protein enriched nutrition with improved lung function at 6 years. Recently Panagiotounakou et al showed that 'aggressive' nutrition of very preterm infants with and without bronchopulmonary dysplasia during the neonatal period [40 to 44 weeks post conceptional age (PCA)] affect positively respiratory outcome at about 8 years of age comparing with term controls as they had similar results FeV1 and FVC2 . Nutrition of very preterm (VP) infants during neonatal life is important for the neurodevelopmental outcome and positively affects lung function2,3 .
