Long Term Treatment with Oral Antidiabetics

In 1959, at the VIII Congress of the Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine Society which was held during the 60th Congress of the Internal Medicine Italian Society, Greppi1 and his colleagues presented a report on “Senile Diabetes”, in which hereditary, constitutional, endocrine, metabolic, vascular and therapeutic aspects were highlighted. It is significant that in a period when there still were nosographic uncertainties and at the beginning of therapy wirh oral hypoglycemic agents, these veteran gerontologists had already drawn the attention to a problem which still today presents controversial aspects.
