Securing the contents of a storage unit

A data storage unit (100) includes a data storage section (105) of a memory for storing data written into the memory unit. A group version data memory (101) stores a group version value (102) and associated with the data storage portion of the memory, wherein the memory unit is arranged so that when changing the group version value all previously written into the data memory portion of the memory data is unreadable.
