The comparison of antioxidant activity and the contents of antioxidant componds of extract fractions between fragrant loquat and common loquat.

It is well known that Eriobotrya plants have significant amounts of phenolics and flavonoids,and exhibit a strong antioxidant activity. Experiments were conducted to examine variation in the contents of total phenolics and flavonoids,and antioxidant activities in the leaves of fragrant loquat and common loquat. In this study,it is shown that the fragrant loquat had stronger antioxidant activities,and that the contents of total phenolics or flavonoids was significantly correlated with DPPH radical scavenging activity/reducing power. In addition,the AB-8 resin could be used to enrich total phenolics and total flavonoids from some extract fractions of fragrant loquat and common loquat. This work suggests that frangrant loquat has a better utilization value.
