High speed circuit technology for multi-gigabit/sec optical communication systems
1988
The authors discuss the design tradeoffs and experimental results for several multigigabit-per-second regenerator circuit components. To illustrate the roles of these circuits in optical communications, they describe the system integration of some of these components into a prototype 2.4 Gb/s regenerator. The performance of the regenerator was measured in conjunction with a 1300 nm high-speed laser diode and an InGaAs avalanche photodiode. The regenerator circuits are expected to find applications in high-speed direct-detection systems for broadband ISDN (integrated services digital network). >
