The Influence of Dietary Intervention in Connective Tissue Diseases: Evidence from Randomized Clinical Trials

2021
The aim of this review is to identify and discuss randomized clinical trials conducted in patients with connective tissue diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, vasculitis, Sjogren’s syndrome, and systemic sclerosis. Although limited, the results obtained with bioactive compounds, namely n-3 polyunsaturated and short-chain fatty acids, demonstrate that dietary intervention and nutritional counseling might have an important role as adjuvant therapy in patients with connective tissue diseases, particularly in the light of the comorbidities which characterize these conditions.
