Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis in Europe

2007
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is now well-established and provided in many European countries. However, regulations, professional standards and accreditation requirements can differ notably. Furthermore, no comprehensive independent data exist about practice and provision in Europe, nor about the quality assurance practices and procedures designed to optimize the quality of the results. Consequently, IPTS launched a study to obtain a currently lacking knowledge of the provision and quality assurance of PGD services and cross-border activities in Europe. The present report sets out the findings of the study. The mission of the JRC is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national. LF-N A -2264-EN -C
