Laser excisional biopsy under local anaesthesia: An outpatient technique?

1987
SummarySeventy-eight patients with cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (72) or colposcopic suspicion of micro-invasive disease (6) were treated by laser excision biopsy, under local anaesthesia, in the outpatient department. Cylindrical biopsy specimens, some of comparatively large dimensions, were thus obtained. There were minimal complications related to the procedure, which was generally well tolerated by the patients. No biopsy specimen was considered unsuitable for histological examination.
