Energy dissipation of mechanical oscillators induced by an electric field applied to the surface of an oscillating body

Various factors influencing the damping of the torsional oscillations of a pendulum are discussed. Damping caused by dissipative surface diffusion processes or charge transfer of surface states is considered to be the most probable.
