SO3-sulphonation : evolution of process design as a function of updated feedstock and surfactant quality specifications

1998
The evolution and improvement in the design and industrial operation of SO 3 -sulphonation is discussed together with the updating of the quality standard of detergent feedstocks obtained by innovative or optimized production processes. The modern SO 3 -sulphonation technology follows the technical and marketing demand of the surfactant and detergent industry. This is emphasized by describing the basic and auxiliary process units specifically developed for processing the various raw materials. The quality figures characterizing the anionic surfactants obtainable by combination of the last generation of equipment and feedstocks, are also illustrated together with relevant impact on added market value and perspective further trend.
